HOW TO TABLESCAPE FOR CHRISTMAS
September 29, 2021
Tablescaping has risen in popularity over the past couple of years and we couldn't be more happy! A chance to lay the table in style for a special occasion, there's nothing like a Christmas dinner with all the family sat around. Here are some of our top tips:
- Choose a theme, not everything has to be matchy matchy, but a colour theme or certain look/style (dark and rich or cottage core) is a good starting place
- Choose a tablecloth to add the foundations of luxury
- Next, add some greenery, we like yew, ivy, holly and ecylatus down the centre of the table. This works well if you're serving up the whole plate before hand in the kitchen or having dishes laid out in the kitchen for people to lay their own plate. If you're having dishes of food on the table, think about having greenery in jam jars or little vases. You don't want too much height, otherwise you can't see the people across the table!
- Add battery powered fairy lights on a copper wire and some candles - a combination of tall white ones and little tealights in glass holders is perfect.
- For your table/dinnerware, either go all different with vintage or have matching ones, we love the Christmas Tree Spode ones.
- Choose good cutlery and glassware too.
- Lay out cotton napkins - check out our collection here.
- Finally, finish with the best luxury Christmas crackers, containing wonderful gifts and super smart silver hats. They will elevate your table and get your guests talking!
- If you have the space, considering hanging greenery from above. We love Sally's ladder here and here.
Laying the Christmas table is one of my favourite things to do on Christmas Eve, once the kids have gone to bed! I prepare and gather everything before than then enjoying the process. More is more is my motto, last year was all out tartan and this year will be gingham.
